Research areas - Automation
Historically, the department is structured into two themes: CIS "Cooperating Intelligent Systems" and ROC "Robustness & complexity" depending on the type of complexity considered.
The ROC theme considers a first type of complexity intrinsic to the system, and the SIC theme, a second type arising from interaction and cooperation between intelligent entities. The difference between the two themes lies mainly in the tools implemented to apprehend this complexity: in ROC the focus is mainly at the operational level, with tools coming from control theory and observation of dynamic systems, whereas in SIC the focus is rather at a decision-making level, with tools for knowledge modeling, classification, event-driven simulation and optimization.
The ROC theme considers a first type of complexity intrinsic to the system, and the SIC theme a second type coming from the interaction and cooperation between intelligent entities.
